Digital TV Pick-Up Rate Reaches 32% by end 2008

The pick-up rate of Hong Kong's digital terrestrial television continues to grow in the fourth quarter of 2008 after the Beijing Olympic Games and despite the outbreak of global financial crisis.

According to the public survey conducted jointly by the Government and the two free-to-air broadcasters in December 2008, there were already 32.3% households (about 726,000 families) receiving digital television via set-top boxes, integrated digital television sets and computers.

The two free-to-air broadcasters will continue to expand the digital network by phases from 2009 to 2011, so that the ultimate digital coverage will be on a par with that of the existing analogue television broadcasting.
