Labelling Scheme
In order that consumers may make informed choice when they purchase receivers for reception of digital terrestrial television (DTT), the Office of the Telecommunications Authority (OFTA) has introduced a voluntary labelling scheme. Only DTT receivers capable of reception of local DTT services will be affixed with the labels.
There are two labels, namely the "Basic-tier Receiver" and the "Higher-tier Receiver". The Basic-tier Receiver is for receiving the four existing programme channels in standard definition television (SDTV) simulcast in digital format. The Higher-tier Receiver is for receiving all high definition television (HDTV) and SDTV programme channels broadcast in digital format.
The focus of the labelling scheme is on the capability of receiving DTT programme channels. As such, it will not be concerned with whether the registered DTT receivers are capable of supporting the optional services (such as datacasting and interactive services) which the broadcasters may provide.
The labelling scheme, administered by OFTA, is entirely voluntary for the suppliers (including manufacturers and their dealers) to join. OFTA will conduct random inspections to detect any unauthorised use of the labels.
Consumers are welcome to check from the register the brand names and models of all DTT receivers on which the labels are used. Please click on the respective labels for viewing the register.
