Consumer Benefits
The benefits of digital broadcasting to consumers are manifold. It can improve spectrum efficiency because less spectrum is required to carry the same amount of information compared with the existing analogue broadcasting. Therefore, a frequency channel can be used to carry more TV programme channels. This will benefit the consumers by widening programming choice. Digital broadcasting will also improve sound and picture quality and help overcome signal distortion due to reflection and radio interference, thereby eliminate reception problems such as snowing and ghosting. Digital broadcasting also enables the provision of high definition TV (HDTV), interactive multimedia services, electronic programme guides and datacasting, etc.
